I think that television is an instrument that can be as good as it wants, but people use it for other objectives too and therefore it must be controlled. I don’t disagree with some television programs, but I think there are some inappropriate programs too, especially for children.
I feel angry when I see a program that shows people doing nothing special, they’re always arguing about lives from other people without respect, they shout at the others, and they win money teaching to people no having respect. That’s why I hate yellow press. However, I think television is a very important mean of communication between people of everywhere. Lots of people watch television, the news, documentaries, cartoons, yellow press, soap-operas, and series... I agree if we use television to educate we’ll learn lots of important things we don’t know, to arise our curiosity, and maybe we can use it as a teaching element. I’m only worried about children who don’t know what they are watching: violence, swearwords, all of them in cartoons and series they watch. There is a protected schedule in Spain, but some channels don’t fulfil it, and they have no punishment. They also do more yellow-press programs every day.
Another reason for watching television is that you can also see good humour programs like soap-operas, comedy and some good films, although they are constantly interrupted by advertisements. I like watching documentary programs like “Callejeros” because they show things that at this time exist but people don’t believe, like many poverty and social problems that people ignore. They show everyone, who wants to see it, the problems of an unfortunate life.
In my opinion, people who watch this type of programs are more concerned about how the world is, the environment problems and they know new things about their environment, like illnesses or animals that are so small that we can’t see them. However, they exist.
Personally, I prefer computer than television. If I want to see a program I can do it without interruptions, although it must be the first day after their emission. What’s more, I can see only the programs or series I want, it not depends on the channel. I can also see the news from different journals without paying, play computer games, chat with my friends, do my homework, and lots of things.
I think it is clear that all the mass media are good if you know how to use them for your objectives.
Yesterday we did an oral exam at class. We must to explain our opinion about TV or technologies in front of all the class. I've to say it was difficult for all of us, we were all nervous, but in general everyone did it as good as he or she could. I want to congratulate them!!! ^^
